Our History

Community Impact

Founded in 2005, the Do It Foundation began with a simple yet powerful mission: to restore dignity and independence by providing free wheelchairs to those who could not afford them. What started with one container of chairs has grown into one of Costa Rica’s most impactful nonprofit efforts.

2005 - Our Beginning

Launched by John Scheman, the Foundation started as a charitable arm of Grupo Do It, bringing mobility and hope to Costa Ricans through its first wheelchair distributions.

2025 - Our Growth

Twenty years later, the Do It Foundation has delivered over 30,000 wheelchairs, supported 100,000+ people through education, health, and environmental initiatives, and built lasting partnerships that continue to change lives across Costa Rica.

The Need

Why Mobility Matters

Mobility is a basic human right—but in Costa Rica, tens of thousands still lack access. Around 31% of disabled individuals face mobility impairments, yet only a fraction receive the wheelchairs they need. Barriers like poverty, rural isolation, and inaccessible infrastructure make independence nearly impossible.

Do It Foundation bridges this gap—delivering hope on wheels to children, teens, and adults who would otherwise remain isolated. Every chair means freedom: the chance to attend school, visit a doctor, or simply enjoy life with dignity.
